A Quiet Time Sharing Book by Nancy J. Cloyd and Illustrated by Delia Bowman Wach

2009 Finalist Indie Book Awards for Best Children's Educational/Academic Book

Nancy Cloyd is available to speak and share concerns about reading readiness in this day when young adults seem preoccupied with the cyber world; and young adults are often parents of little children. Young parents are often overtaxed with jobs, transporting, feeding, bathing and putting to bed their child. They have tired brains right when their children need their attention.

Crisis of Early Literacy—Interview with Nancy Cloyd, TMI with Aldous Tyler

She will discuss the importance of the parent/caregiver relationship to visual literacy development. The trusted adult is the key to open the whole world of flat visual images, books. Children are quite content to play in the tangible world of objects to grab until a trusted person shows them enthusiasm about the abstract symbols we call written and spoken language. Exploring characteristics bring the flat images to life.

Inspired by her own grandson who is having challenges with early language development, Nancy chose Delia’s colorful and engaging illustrations. On pages facing each illustration are “Parents Points;” a step-by-step guide to explore the characteristics of the image.

Spending that quiet time together with his or her child can be rewarding for the parent.
Making children feel worthwhile means showing them that they are worth your time (while).

Nancy will bring information from CDC and other sources about Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD); Red Flags for evaluation; and Milestones of Development.

Nancy will also bring examples of recovery phases of children that have been diagnosed as Autistic.

Nancy Cloyd is available to discuss the literacy crisis with you and your colleagues. She affirms educator awareness and brings specific tools to pass on to parents.

Nancy shares hope to encourage each other in this effort… No Child Left Behind. As Cynthia Bayliss, Director of MACAA’s eleven Headstart Centers (VA) observed, “It’s always a good time to introduce a book like this into a child’s home and reinforce that learning experience with a copy of Teddy Bear’s Favorite Pictures for each teacher as well. Together we can greatly improve each child’s readiness.”
