Subject: Stickyman Hits Big: New Book Focuses on Exercise for All Ages
(Terra Alta)— Physical therapist Rusty McQuade shares her wealth of experience in her new book, Stickyman Movements. This fun and easy to use exercise book is appropriate for all ages, from 2 to 102. It has helped people maintain good muscle tone and improve their general overall health by gently and slowly building up their endurance and skill.
“I have been using Stickyman Movements with all my patients for years,” says McQuade. “My home health patients need rehabilitation through strengthening and I am having great results. The patients are making the movements a routine. This book has no limits with age; it is very versatile and I use it with small children, seniors, even stroke and heart patients. My senior physical therapy patients are doing the movements with their grandchildren and both are having fun!”
“Now we have a different approach to improve people’s movement. We can utilize their imagination adding humor and determination with a program that anyone can do. For change to occur people need to empower themselves and Stickyman does just that for people of all ages,” said Seattle, Washington nurse Patty Vatter.
Even cancer and chemotherapy patients are getting more mobile with Stickyman. “I just came through eighteen months of chemotherapy and the treatments made me very weak. I started physical therapy with Rusty and I thank God for Stickyman. Through the different exercises I began to gain strength and now I can walk on my own,” said Shirley Snuffer of Beckley.
Rusty is also a new addition to the Headline Books School Show Program and will be traveling extensively this coming year. Particular to her program is health and fitness for high school age students. “Learning good habits now will help them so much in later life,” McQuade points out. “Eating right and exercising can help slow down the aging process and definitely improve their quality of life.”
Rusty McQuade, a West Virginia native, was appointed to the Governor’s Early Childhood Implementation Commission in 1993 and was instrumental in helping to develop long-term plans for health and nutrition, family support and education, and early childhood development and education. She was the director of her own preschool for fourteen years. A former volunteer firefighter, she also coaches and referees high school soccer. Rusty resides in Rennick, WV with her family.
