Subject: Snapdragons...and Owls...at Borders & Waldenbooks this Weekend!!
(Terra Alta) Borders, Washington Crown Center, Washington PA and Waldenbooks, South Hills Village Mall in Pittsburg will be featuring children’s book author, Melinda Chambers this weekend. Chambers will be at Washington Crown Center Borders on Friday, November 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at South Hills Village Waldenbooks on Saturday, December 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Chambers will be on hand to sign copies of her newest book, The Day the Snapdragons Snapped Back. While digging up a luscious bone, Puppy digs up Beulah’s beautiful snapdragons. He learns that caring for gardens...and puppies...can get them through the rough times and if the roots are strong, the garden will flower again. Children of all ages love Melinda’s beautiful books. Illustrated by Jane Lew resident, Sue Ann Spiker, this is the second collaboration for the pair.
We Are Whoooo We Are, Chambers first book, is now in its second printing. Just released last year, this book has proven to be a favorite with kids, parents and teachers alike. We Are Whoooo We Are encourages children to be happy with whoooo they are. Father owl teaches his son to be true to himself even though the owlet wants to be like a blue jay or a mockingbird or many other birds in the forest. Chambers captures not only the importance of character education; she also introduces the science of birds and their habits.
As part of Headline Kids School Show Program, Chambers travels to schools sharing her wonderful story with grade school students. “I enjoy visiting schools and talking with the students,” says Chambers, “my story can help children understand they are wonderful just as they are and help them make choices that are right for them.” She urges students to enhance their character, be true to themselves, and they will find life unfolding successfully for them. She was recently a featured author at the Martinsburg WV Book Faire.
“Character education can be difficult to teach,” says publisher Cathy Teets, president of Headline Books. “Melinda’s books fit perfectly into our School Show Program. We publish children’s books that not only entertain but educate in a fun way. The story of Father Owl and his owlet and puppy and the snapdragons will charm the students as they take away excellent lessons to guide them through the coming years”
Melinda Spiker Chambers grew up in the rural mountains of central West Virginia. Receiving her BS from West Virginia University and MS from Ohio State University, she is currently a family and consumer sciences teacher in Romney, WV. She also writes an award-winning column, Homespun, for the Hampshire Review. Raised to have an appreciation for natural beauty, Melinda enjoys looking for the lessons that nature so abundantly teaches to those who take the time to listen.
