Subject: Tree House? The Best You Will Ever See in Carnation—Headline Kids Newest Release
(Terra Alta)— From a childhood story told to them by their father to the book store shelves comes a beautiful new book by new author Vickie Jo Milleson and sister and illustrator, Connie Jean Keaton. “Vickie and Connie make a great team,” says publisher Cathy Teets, president of Headline Books. “Children of all ages will enjoy the story of Carnation, a delightful little girl who lives in the trunk of a tree. Carnation’s story stimulates early reading skills and will make imaginations soar! This book will appeal to Boxcar Children fans everywhere!”
Carnation lives in The Field—a beautiful place in the woods of West Virginia. She has no family except her special woodland friends. Learn how she survives and thrives from the pages of this beautifully illustrated book. She invites the reader into her very special home with its small, child size furniture, dainty curtains, sunshine kitchen and her favorite blue dishes. Her adventuresome life will educate and entertain all readers.
Both author and illustrator grew up in Springfield, WV. Author Vickie Jo Ansel Milleson is a graduate of Shepherd College with a degree in elementary education; Vickie has been a substitute and full-time teacher in the Hampshire County public schools for over thirty years. She currently teaches the fifth grade at Springfield Green Spring Elementary School where she is known for her animated teaching style. Vickie is married to William J. Milleson, Sr., a retired corporate engineer and Springfield native, who now raises beef cattle on their family farm. They are the parents of three children, two daughters, Julie, an attorney, Jill, a kindergarten teacher, and a son, Joe, an attorney. They also have five grandsons.
Illustrator and older sister Connie Jean Ansel Keaton has had a life-long love of nature. Connie graduated from Morris Harvey College with a degree in elementary education. An artist and teacher, she taught school for many years using her artistic talent in the classroom. She was married to the late Ralph C. Keaton, also a native West Virginian, a former teacher who became an insurance and real estate agent. They have two children, a daughter, Amy, an elementary school principal, a son, William, an attorney, and three grandchildren, all of Springfield. Connie is known for her beautiful oil paintings of flowers and birds which grace her home and the homes of her relatives. She credits her father for instilling in her a love of the out-of-doors and drawing.
Vickie and Connie will be featured at the West Virginia Book Festival at the Charleston, WV Civic Center in October in the Headline Books booth. They are also active in the Headline Kids School Show Program and may be coming to your school in the future!
