Award winning authors Tim Packman and Melinda Chambers
to sign books Dec. 10 at resort
Meet two Mom’s Choice Award Winning authors, NASCAR children’s book hero Funny Dan – oh, and Santa Claus, too – at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., this weekend.
Funny Dan will join his creator, Tim Packman, author of Funny Dan the Race Car Man, a title in the NASCAR Library Collection, and Melinda Chambers, author of three award winning children’s books, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Fizzy’s Land of Oz, a toy store at the Greenbrier.
Packman won a Silver Award for Best General Fiction for Ages 9-12 for Funny Dan the Race Car Man, which is illustrated by Brendan Sellaro.
Funny Dan is a story about a NASCAR driver who competes for the pure joy of being involved in something he loves. His passion for racing is the one thing that motivates him to compete and, despite the fact he’s never been to victory lane, he’s still a winner to his family, friends and fellow competitors.
“I love how a professional can describe his topic using a language modified for a child’s understanding,” a reviewer said. “This book would make the perfect gift for the young reader, as it teaches that hard work, love, and determination will pay off whether you come in first place or not. Chambers writes children’s books that use nature to teach life lessons. We Are Whooo We Are and Fraidy Cat have won gold Mom’s Choice Awards; The Day the Snapdragons Snapped Back is winner of a silver Mom’s Choice Award.
